It is not always good

Technocracy is not always good because the technologies we use now are warming our planet more than ever before

Each mobile phone, tablet and computer in our home uses so much energy per year that it can be compared to thousands of gasoline-powered cars. And all this is accompanied by routers and other server equipment, which are only becoming more numerous every year.

Now it is difficult to imagine our civilization without access to the Internet, and indeed this is a benefit for humanity. There is no need to talk about all the advantages of the World Wide Web, and we cannot even imagine that humanity would abandon this technology.

A media which we generate on our smartphone can stay with us for decades and the quality of these media files getting better and better. Each new type of wireless connection doubles Internet traffic and, accordingly, we need more memory to store data. The amount of advanced Internet traffic is growing every year.

Each technological breakthrough only worsens the environmental situation on our planet. When we changing one communication technology to another, the entire Internet also changes. The load on communication nodes and data centers is growing, thereby consuming more energy.

If someone calculates how much energy is spent on using one well-known social network per day, then I think we will be surprised at the results obtained. Most likely, we cannot even imagine what all this will lead to in the future.

I want to draw your attention to the everyday things that we use and many of us don’t even think about the harm it all brings. I am not calling for giving up to use Internet, but if each of us will know that watching funny videos on social networks for 5 or 6 hours for a day spoils the ecology of our planet, then that will be great.
